Boys Athlete of the Year

Stefon Hargrove, sr., Cuero

Hargrove wrapped up senior season by running the anchor leg on the Gobblers’ 400- and 800-meter relay teams that won gold medals at the UIL Class 3A Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Hargrove made four appearances at the state meet and won nine medals – six gold, two silver and one bronze.

Girls Athlete of the Year

Amanda Clemons, sr., Goliad

Clemons qualified for the UIL Class 3A Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin in the long jump, 100-meter hurdles and ran a leg on the 400-meter relay team. Clemons won a gold medal in the long jump and finished fifth in the 100 hurdles. It was Clemons’ second appearance at the state meet. Clemons finished sixth in the long jump as a junior. Clemons will attend Abilene Christian University on a track and field scholarship.

Boys Coach of the Year

Victor Mathis, Cuero

Mathis led the Gobblers to their third Class 3A state championship in the last four years. Cuero brought home gold medals in the 400- and 800-meter relays, a silver medal in the long jump and a bronze medal in the discus from the UIL Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. The Gobblers also won the District 29-3A championship and their fourth straight Region IV-3A championship.

Girls Coach of the Year

Bryan Branch, Louise

Branch led the Lady Hornets to the Region IV-1A championship and a sixth-place finish at the state meet. Louise brought home a silver medal in the 800-meter relay and a bronze medal in the 400-meter relay from the UIL Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
